Off You Pop exists to get people outside — not through hype, but through real stories from real mountains. Our mission is to reconnect people with the landscapes around them by sharing honest trail experiences, the geology and history beneath every climb, and the personal journeys that unfold step by step.
We believe that time in the mountains changes people.
So we tell the stories that make you want to lace up, head out, and find your own.
One ridge, one trail, one moment of effort at a time.
Mountains aren’t just scenery — they’re archives. Story Pop pulls out the pieces worth carrying: the volcanic scars, the glacial carvings, the old myths, and the small human beats from your own hike. It’s the quick, narrative pulse of Off You Pop, built for listeners who love a good story and a good climb
These are stories from hikers who’ve actually been out there, moving through real terrain with real stakes. Guest Pop captures their climbs, their lessons, and the landscapes that shaped them.
Fizzy Pop is where the trail gets loud — quick hits of tips, tricks, and the debates hikers love to argue about.
If you’ve hiked a trail that left a mark — a climb that challenged you, a ridge that taught you something, or a moment that stayed with you long after the descent — we’d love to have you on Guest Pop. Real hikers, real mountains, real stories. Come share yours.
Philip is a mountain storyteller who believes the best truths come from the trail — from the grind of a long ascent, the geology under your boots, and the unexpected moments that happen when you step outside your comfort zone. He’s hiked across ridges, volcanoes, coastlines, and quiet corners of the world, collecting the kinds of stories that only reveal themselves when you’re tired, weather‑worn, and still moving forward.
Off You Pop is his way of sharing those experiences — the history of the landscapes, the science that shaped them, and the personal journey of walking through them. Whether its a popular climb, a solo push to a summit, or a trail that teaches something you didn’t expect, Philip brings the honesty, curiosity, and lived‑in perspective of someone who actually does the miles.
"My primary goal with this podcast is to motivate others to get outside and find the adventure. There is so much more to a trail than the walk: the history, the geology, the flora and fauna create a truly immersive life experience"
Do you remember the time you ridged-out on a dry waterfall in the desert, how the appalachian ice made navigating to the summit impossible; the seven hours you spent breaking trail through the snow on a 10,000ft peak; your face to face encounter with a rattlesnake on a loose, steep canyon wall; the swollen river you crossed after a hurricane; the loss of feeling in your frost-nipped fingers staring in wonder at Everest; the fear you felt as the Peruvian jungle closed in around you as darkness fell? Do you remember how you lived to tell the tale? I do, and I want to share these and many more adventures with you.
This podcast isn't just about my adventures, I also want to bring on other ordinary people like you and me, who have had extraordinary experiences on the mountain and the trail, to share their stories, their memories and their adventures. If you've got a story to tell, or expertise to share, please reach out.
I spend most of my time in an office doing fun things like conquering spreadsheets, climbing the corporate ladder, and grappling with emails. The outdoors is my escape, and I want to assure you I am as ordinary as the next person, and that should never stop you from chasing adventure. However, I also have the benefit of years of hiking and trail running in mountainous terrain all over the world, solid navigation skills, a wilderness first aid certificate, and reasonable physical fitness. If you are going to attempt any of the adventures you hear about on this podcast, you do so at your own risk - the mountains are unforgiving and you must know the limits of your own skills, experience and fitness. The number one rule for me in the mountains is "Don't Die!" and I take that very seriously.
A lot of the content is centered around California and Nevada because that is where I do most of my hiking these days. However, I will add special guests how have hiked in different regions, and as my budget and time allows I try to sneak in a few more national and international trips to share.
